Navy Man Arrested in Death of Young Daughter
HONOLULU (AP) _ A sailor was arrested in the death of his 20-month-old daughter, whose body was found inside a locked duffel bag floating in Pearl Harbor.
Petty Officer Robert Allen Funk, 27, had reported the girl missing Dec. 3.
KITV-TV reported that Funk led investigators to a key that fit the padlock on the duffel bag after her body was found Monday. He was arrested Thursday.
Investigators said they believe the child was suffocated.
Funk and his wife, Julie, divorced in November, and Funk had won custody of the girl, Sheri Lynn, and her 3-year-old sister three weeks ago.
Mrs. Funk said Tuesday that she suspected her former husband killed the toddler because ″she looked like me and he hated my guts.″
If Funk is charged, the military will decide if he will face a court martial or trial in civilian court, the Navy said.
