Craft Expo: Well-known artists, craftspeople on Green

July 5, 2018

Folks in summer travel to Guilford’s lovely center for fun dining, strolling through shops or maybe an author event at Guilford Public Library. But a certain arts expo has a 61-year legacy on the historic Guilford Green, too.

Guilford Art Center’s annual Craft Expo features about 180 craft artists on the Green Friday-Sunday, July 13-15 and is considered one a top Connecticut outdoor juried show of fine American craft. Artists from 20 states will display and sell their handmade work in a variety of media.

You’ll see works in clay, glass, leather, metal, painting, photography and other media (even soap).

Maureen Belden, Guilford Art Center executive director, said in a release that organizers are “excited to see the beautiful mix of traditional, cutting edge and innovative work from both established and emerging artists.”

There will also be a Family Art Tent for young visitors, silent auction of exhibitor-donated work, live craft demonstrations by Guilford Art Center faculty and students, and sale of Guilford Art Center student work. There will be a food truck area and some live musical entertainment throughout the weekend.

There is an admission charge; Craft Expo is the Guilford Art Center’s single most important fundraiser.

Guilford Green, bouned by Boston, Whitfield, Broad and Park streets. Friday, noon-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, noon-5 p.m. Admission $9 adults, $7 seniors. GAC members, children under 12 and active military free. 203-453-5947. www.guilfordartcenter.org
