6-alarm Lawrence fire burns 3 buildings
LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — Investigators say a 6-alarm blaze that destroyed two buildings and damaged several others in Lawrence is suspicious.
There were no reports of injuries in the fire on East Cambridge Street reported at about 4 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say the blaze is suspicious because it started in a vacant building under construction that had no gas or electricity supply. There was no word on a cause.
It spread to an occupied three-unit apartment building, displacing a dozen people from three families. The Red Cross is assisting two of the families.
Mayor Daniel Rivera said at the scene that everyone was accounted for.
Several nearby homes were also evacuated as a precaution.
