Murder trial begins in Lawrence County
IRONTON - A 12-member jury and two alternates were selected Monday in the aggravated murder trial of Russell L. Adkins.
Adkins, 38, of County Road 1, South Point, is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of a Chesapeake area man last year.
Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson said the trial could last about a week. Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Charles “Chuck” Cooper is presiding over the trial.
Adkins is charged with severely beating Larry Scott Stephenson, 54, of Chesapeake, and then putting him in a pickup truck and taking him to an abandoned house. The victim subsequently was bound hand and foot. Adkins is being represented by Roger Smith, a Huntington lawyer.
