Walkup Melodia Fire Lawyer Team Investigates Camp Fire in Paradise, Butte County
PARADISE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov 15, 2018--The Walkup Melodia team of fire lawyers has announced that it is actively involved in the investigation and prosecution of the alleged wrongful death cases against Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for the tragic loss of life that occurred in the November 2018 “Camp Fire.” Initial reports indicate that the fire occurred as a result of PG&E’s alleged negligence in the operation of its transmission lines malfunction, causing widespread devastation injury and deaths throughout Butte County. The fire entirely destroyed the city of Paradise, and more than 120,000 surrounding acres.
In less than six days the Camp Fire in Butte County became the most deadly and destructive electrically-triggered wildfire in California history. Initial information, including a report filed by PG&E with the CPUC, indicates that the fire started between 6 and 6:30 a.m., east of Paradise, California on November 8. The number of dead now exceeds 45. More than 100 people remain unaccounted for. The fire has displaced individuals and families from more than 6000 homes. The fire incinerated homes, apartments, storage facilities, businesses, hospitals, government buildings, crops and forest land. In the first five days of after ignition the fire burned more than 6,700 structures.
The wrongful death lawyers of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly and Schoenberger have been successfully recovering money damages for wrongful death and serious burn injury claims for more than 50 years. “We understand the elements of damages, how to prove fire-related wrongful death claims and fire-related personal injury claims. We know the fire cause and origin experts to hire, the economic experts to retain in order to prove financial loss to surviving heirs, the ways to demonstrate a failure of reasonable care on the part of electric utilities,” said Walkup Melodia managing partner, Michael A. Kelly.
The lawyers of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly and Schoenberger are prosecuting more than 20 wrongful death cases arising out of the 2017 North Bay Sonoma/Napa fires and the 2017 Montecito mudslide tragedy, which arose from the deadly southern California Thomas fire. “We are committed to recovering the maximum amount possible for the survivors of those killed as a result of the Camp wildfire,” added Kelly.
