Downtown Tomball sidewalk construction to begin late October
The city of Tomball is working to connect city sidewalks as part of an effort to be more pedestrian-friendly.
Tomball City Council voted Oct. 1 to award a contract to Houston-based construction company Greenscapes Six to build sidewalks in downtown.
“It’s focusing a lot on the in kind of the old town area,” said Beth Jones, director of public works.
The sidewalks will be built north and south of Main Street.
The construction will be along Commerce Street, Market Street, Walnut Street, Theis Lane and Lawrence Street.
The city reviewed 10 bids before deciding on Greenscapes Six, which submitted the lowest bid at $262,660.
“Every year we do a sidewalk project,” Jones said.
Jones said Greenscapes Six would have a notice to proceed by mid-October and are expected to begin construction by the end of the month.
The sidewalks are expected to be completed by the end of 2018, Jones said.
