HITCHINS, Ky. - The Kentucky State Police has released the names of victims involved in a Christmas Eve murder-suicide that occurred during a shooting in Hitchins earlier this week.

According to Senior Trooper David Boardman, the public affairs officer for the KSP Ashland Post, the shooting was reported at 12:28 p.m. Monday at a home along Winding Way in the Hitchins community of Carter County.

When troopers arrived to the scene, they found a male and female with single gunshot wounds to the head.

The preliminary investigation indicates Billy Suttles, 54, of Grayson, Kentucky, was involved in a domestic violence situation with his live-in girlfriend, Rebecca Lancaster, 49, also of Grayson, when he retrieved a .25 caliber handgun and shot her once in the head before turning the gun on himself.

Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene and Suttles was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington before he succumbed to his injury.

The investigation is being led by KSP Detective Sam Lawson, who was assisted by other KSP personnel, as well as the Carter County EMS and sheriff’s department and Carter County Coroner William Waddell.
