GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Jeff Nordgaard scored 26 points as Wisconsin-Green Bay defeated Northern Illinois 62-57 Thursday.

Gary Grzesk put the Phoenix (7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference) up 58-57 on a rebound basket and free throw with 28 seconds remaining.

Northern Illinois (10-2 and 0-1) was unable to convert on the next possession and fouled Eric Jackson who made two free throws to put the Phoenix up three with 14 seconds remaining.

The Huskies came down and missed a 3-pointer which led to Chris Westlake’s lay-up for the final margin.

``You have to like this team,″ Green Bay Coach Dick Bennett said of his squad. ``It’s just very difficult for them every time they step on the floor.″

Green Bay scored the last seven points of the game and made 5-of-7 free throws in the last two minutes of the game.

Northern Illinois used its quickness and defensive pressure to take a 28-27 halftime lead. The Huskies shot just 37.9 percent (11-of-29) in the first half.

The Phoenix shot 45.5 percent (10-of-22) for the first half, relying heavily on the shooting of Ben Berlowski and Nordgaard who scored 25 of the team’s 27 points by intermission.

Mike Lipnisky scored 17 points to lead Northern Illinois while Ronald Minter added 10

Berlowski scored 15 points.
