Vandals break 43 windows at BF High School
BELLE FOURCHE — With the start of school 10 days away, Belle Fourche school staff are having to cleanup and secure the high school after vandals broke out 43 windows at Belle Fourche High School.
Steve Willard, the superintendent for the district, said the vandals struck Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
The broken windows were on the backside of the school. The broken windows were for classrooms, vocational and tech rooms, and the wrestling room, Willard said.
“We’re in the process of clean up right now,” Willard said. “We have to cover up windows and weather proof them and secure them until we get glass back in there.”
Police are investigating the incident.
“This is an active investigation, and the Belle Fourche Police Department is following up on all information,” said Police Chief Marlyn Pomrenke. “We are working together with the school to bring this case to a resolution.”
Pomrenke asked people who might have information about the vandalism to call the Belle Fourche Police Department at (605) 892-4240.
Willard said an insurance adjustor is expected to arrive today, but it would likely be about two weeks before the windows could be replaced.
We have a great custodial crew and they are working hard to clean it all up and get it secured.
The school year begins on Aug. 20.
