Edgecombe courthouse evacuated after threat
The Edgecombe County Courthouse was evacuated Tuesday morning following a bomb threat, authorities said.
The threat was received at about 8:45 a.m., and deputies cleared staff and visitors from the courthouse. Ten teachers and 50 children also were ordered to leave the Think & Grow Daycare across the street as a precaution, authorities said.
Bomb-sniffing dogs from the State Bureau of Investigation and the Rocky Mount Police Department searched the courthouse and the surrounding area, and no explosives were found.
Staff was allowed back into the courthouse at 11:30 a.m., and court was set to resume at 1:30 p.m.
The threat remains under investigation.
