Mustangs go 3-and-2 in basketball opener

NEEDLES — The Needles High School Mustangs basketball team went 3-2 in their traditional season opener in Williams, Ariz., last week.

The non-conference tournament that attracts schools from all over Arizona ran Thursday through Saturday.

The Mustangs beat Basis 57-28 in the first game, lost to Cibecue, Ariz., 76-54 in the second, posted a 61-50 win over El Capitan in the third game, lost to the hosts 54-38 and finally posted a 71-60 win over Grand Canyon High School.

Basis High Schools are a chain of charter schools.

The Mustangs host their NIAA 2A South League opener on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The junior varsity tips off at 4:30 p.m., the varsity at 7:30 p.m. against Laughlin in The Corral.
