TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Roberto Luongo made 36 saves as the Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 on Thursday night to snap a six-game winless streak.
Marcus Nilson, Sandis Ozolinsh and Ivan Novoseltsev scored for the Panthers, 0-4-2 in their previous six. The victory was the 550th of coach Mike Keenan’s NHL career.
Luongo’s bid for his fifth shutout of the season and second against the Lightning ended when Vincent Lecavalier scored with 2.45 left in the third period.
Tampa Bay is 1-7-2-1 in its last 11 home games.
Florida opened the scoring in the first period on a fluke goal by Nilson. He sent the puck toward the net from the corner and it deflected off Tampa Bay defenseman Stan Neckar.
Ozolinsh put the Panthers up 2-0 from the left circle early in the third period. He has three goals and nine points over the past eight games.
Novoseltsev redirected Brad Norton’s slap shot to make it 3-0 midway through the third period. The assist was Norton’s first NHL point.
