Man arrested after Burlington infant exposed to cocaine

A man was arrested in Burlington on Sunday after an infant was hospitalized due to cocaine exposure.

Around 1 a.m., officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to the Alamance Regional Medical Center, where an 8-month-old was receiving treatment and suffering from an exposure to cocaine.

An investigation revealed that the baby was being cared for by a relative during the exposure.

Officers arrested Gary Donnell Cotton, 38, and charged him with felony child abuse. Cotton was being held Sunday in the Alamance County jail under a $25,000 bond. Officials did not confirm Cotton’s relationship to the infant.

The baby was released from the hospital, according to police. The incident is under investigation.
