Antiques, art show set for Sept. 8 at Octagon House
The fourth annual Octagon House Antiques and Art Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, on the grounds of the Octagon House Museum, 919 Charles St.
The rain-or-shine event will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. A $5 donation is requested upon admission to the museum grounds, with children ages 17 and younger being admitted for free.
The event will feature a variety of antiques and art dealers, an antiques and collectibles silent auction, discounted tours of the museum, refreshments and seasonal floral and produce for sale. Two presentations on antique and vintage Christmas collecting will be held, at 11 a.m. for 1820-1940 collectibles and at 1 p.m. for 1940-1970 decorations.
The silent auction will include antique furniture, Watertown memorabilia, dishware, vintage clocks, frames and artwork. A new feature of the show this year will be a fixed-price sale table of duplicate items from the historical society’s collection. These items include, but are not limited to, small picture frames, prints, books, some lighting parts and old leather medical kit bags. Also available will be two large framed wood and glass panels depicting images of nursery rhymes, antique household decorating items and more.
“The Watertown Historical Society is working hard to grow the antiques and art show into a signature fundraising event for the ongoing care of the Octagon House Museum,” said Melissa Lampe, society president. “We hope to see many antiques and art vendors on our grounds on Sept. 8 as well as many shoppers and people interested in learning more about fine art, antiques, vintage Christmas decorating and local history.”
