Gould ahead of Wakimoto in supes race

August 29, 2018

Votes were still being tallied Tuesday evening, four hours after the polls closed. By 11 p.m., however, it appeared as though Mohave County would have a new fifth-district Supervisor.

Former State Sen. Ron Gould led Republican incumbent Lois Wakimoto by as much as 20 percent of the vote – a margin of 2,587 to 1,718 votes.

“I’m still trying to figure out how many votes are still out there,” Gould said. “But I’m pretty darn happy. I don’t have a victory speech. I’d like to thank the voters for their support of me, and I’ll try to do the best job I can possibly do.”

Gould said that if the remaining votes go in his favor, he has two primary goals he hopes to achieve as a county supervisor. “I try not to measure the drapes before I get in the office, but roads and the Sheriff’s Office are two of the biggest things I hope to fix as supervisor.”
