Volleyball: Kingwood Park sweeps Lake Creek to remain undefeated in district

October 3, 2018

Kingwood Park extended its District 20-5A winning streak to 12 games after sweeping Lake Creek 25-12, 25-14, 25-14 Tuesday night at the Panthers gym.

With the win the Lady Panthers remain undefeated in district play with six matches remaining in the regular season.

K-Park head coach Kelly Miser was pleased with the performance of the Panthers.

“Overall, I thought we played strong tonight,” Miser said. “We set some goals in terms of passing and how many free ball plays we could get. I thought the girls adjusted well had a strong performance.”

K-Park honored breast cancer survivors on Tuesday night as the match was called Dig Pink at the Park.

The No. 18 Lady Panthers (27-11,12-0) dominated in the first set.

K-Park was led by junior outside hitter Elizabeth Overmyer, who had 17 kills, three digs and one block.

“Overall, I thought we started out strong then died down in the middle,” Overmyer said. “This late in the season we have to stay strong for the playoffs and make sure that we have consistent matches from here on out.”

Erika and Alia Williams combined for12 kills and three blocks for K-Park.

Julia Hadley added 11 assists and three aces.

The Lady Panthers fell behind in the second and third sets, but rallied to get the set victories to seal the match.

Senior setter Andie Unwin was reminded that the Lady Panthers must compete in every set.

“I think we might have lost some focus and we can’t do that as a team,” said Unwin, who had 31 assists, five kills and four digs. “We have to make sure that we’re playing together as a team every time we step on the floor.”

“It comes down to how much energy their going to choose to play with,” Miser said. “When we have new sets coming in they have to make it a priority to play with each other and remind themselves how special this season can be.”

The Lady Panthers will play Clear Springs at 4:30 p.m. Friday looking to extend their district winning streak to 13 games.

“This is a tough district,” Miser said. “We just have to make sure that we have great effort on the floor and have great offense and defense.”
