Harold J. Tobenski, 93, of Herscher, passed away Friday (April 12, 2019) at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Irwin, the son of Frank and Aldea Burton Tobenski. Harold married Helen Nicklas on Nov. 20, 1954.
Harold retired from Hunt Super Service and also had worked at Siedentop-Hendricks. He enjoyed fishing, working on tractors and the geese that returned to his pond every year.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II; and a member of L.S.T. 325 organization.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Ken Emling, of Bonfield; sister, Donna Witheft, of Buckingham; sister-in-law, Geraldine Tobenski, of Irwin; three grandchildren, Klayton Emling, of Bonfield, Kyle Emling, of Kankakee, and Kasey (Laura) Emling, of Herscher; two great-grandchildren, Carlie and Alde; along with several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Helen Cox.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Helen (on Nov. 14, 2009); his parents; his brother, Floyd; and a sister, Doreen Cowan.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, also at the funeral home. Deacon Patrick Skelly will officiate. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Irwin.
