A dozen volleyball players from Nebraska will participate in NCAA tournament

November 28, 2018

Nebraska and Creighton are two of the top 10 teams in the nation, but they aren’t the only programs bringing in-state players to the NCAA tournament.

There are 12 women who played high school volleyball in Nebraska representing seven teams in the 64-team field. And that number could grow in future years.

There were 27 girls committed to Division I programs in the Nebraska prep volleyball state tournament earlier this month. That stat prompted Nebraska coach John Cook to praise the level of high school volleyball in this state.

And now that will be on display in the NCAA tournament. First-round matches begin Thursday.

Here’s the list of former Nebraska high schoolers playing in the NCAA volleyball tournament:

» Olivia Nicholson (North Platte), Colorado State

» Amanda Young (Gretna), Colorado State

» Brittany Witt (Omaha Marian), Creighton

» Kelsey O’Connell (Omaha Marian), Creighton

» Grace Nelson (Elkhorn), Creighton

» Jaela Zimmerman (Malcolm), Creighton

» Hayley Densberger (Malcolm), Nebraska

» Sabrina Starks (Platteview), Pittsburgh

» Madison Jurgens (Diller-Odell), South Dakota

» Elizabeth Loschen (Omaha Marian), South Dakota

» Nerissa Moravec (Lincoln Southeast), UCF

» Raegan LeGrand (Papillion-La Vista South), USC
