No injuries reported after blaze in vacant Bridgeport home

March 1, 2019

BRIDGEPORT — A city fire marshal is investigating what caused a heavy structure fire Thursday night in a vacant house.

Calls came in around 6:40 p.m. for a possible structure fire at the corner of Harriet and Arctic streets. Responding firefighters found the flames on the second floor of a 2.5-story abandoned house in the 200 block of Harriet Street.

“First units reported heavy smoke and fire on the second floor of a vacant house,” said Deputy Fire Chief Lance Edwards. “Units were able to get a hose line in place to confine the fire to area of origin, with minor extension in the attic.”

The primary and secondary searches of the home were negative, Edwards said. The recall for the fire was called around 7:15 p.m. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

The cause remains under investigation by the fire marshal.
