Leach Named Devils Assistant Coach

August 3, 2001

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ Jay Leach, who served as an assistant coach with Larry Robinson in Los Angeles, was hired by the New Jersey Devils in a similar capacity.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello on Friday also named Bobby Carpenter as head coach of the Albany River Rats of the AHL, the franchise’s top minor league team.

Carpenter, who was the River Rats’ associate coach, replaces John Cunniff, who was moved to the Devils’ scouting staff along with Kurt Kleinendorst.

Kleinendorst was an assistant coach for the Devils last season.

Besides scouting this season, Cunniff will also work with the United States Olympic team in Salt Lake City.

Goaltender Chris Terreri, who split last season playing with the Devils and the New York Islanders, was named an assistant coach at Albany along with Geordie Kinnear, a longtime River Rats’ player.
