Reporter Told the Real Story
I am writing to express our family’s appreciation for the work of one of your reporters, Peter Jasinski.
Appropriate to the fact of Veterans Day, my son-in-law, a U.S. Marine, was in Virginia at Quantico when his family received a hate-filled and violently racist note delivered to the door of their home on Boutelle Street in Fitchburg.
Mr. Jasinski took the information from me at a moment of fear and worry and he put it out into the world.
Now that is what a reporter does. His report most likely pushed the very recalcitrant mayor of Fitchburg to respond to our fear. Unlike Mr. Jasinski, the mayor’s defensive reaction was hostile.
I say all this as it occurred to me that the very issues that roils our country at the moment, the struggle between politics and the press played out in our most personal family world.
My family has since moved to Virginia. I am glad that they have left Fitchburg. But we won’t forget the work of Mr. Jasinski.
