South Carolina director of golf Puggy Blackmon is retiring after this season. During his career, Blackmom coached British Open champions David Duval and Stewart Cink at Georgia Tech. Blackmon led Georgia Tech from 1982-95 before coming over to South Carolina. Duval and Cink were both All-Americans under Blackmon at Georgia Tech. Duval went on to become the No. 1 golfer in the world and won the British Open in 2001; Cink won it in 2009.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina director of golf Puggy Blackmon is retiring after this season.

The school announced Blackmon’s plans to step down after 24 years with the Gamecocks on Tuesday. During his college career, Blackmon coached British Open champions David Duval and Stewart Cink at Georgia Tech,

Blackmon coached with the Yellow Jackets from 1982-95, guiding future PGA Tour stars like Cink and Duval, who reached No. 1 in the world and won the British Open in 2001. Cink captured the British Open in 2009.

Blackmon was the Gamecocks’ men’s golf coach from 1995-2008. In 2008, he took on the role of the school’s director of golf, overseeing both men’s and women’s teams.
