Buyers gear up for tax-free weekend in Aiken County
Anyone going shopping this weekend should brace themselves for crowded store aisles and lines at the cash register as crowds flock to shop during the tax-free weekend.
This year’s annual Sales Tax Holiday will see the same list of items as last year being exempt from the state’s 6 percent sales tax, such as clothing, bath supplies and computers.
This sale is designed to help people purchase a variety of back-to-school essentials, and so items like funiture are not included in the holiday’s big sale.
Paula Broadwater, general manager at Staples on Pine Log Road, said the store had a big crowd earlier Friday morning.
“It was very, very busy this morning,” Broadwater said. “And throughout the day on Saturday, it’ll probably be very, very busy too.”
In past years, South Carolina residents saved $2 million and $3 million during tax-free weekend.
Tax-free weekend began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and will last until midnight Sunday.
