Agawam goat battle coming to an end

October 14, 2013

AGAWAM, Mass. (AP) — A seven-year legal battle between an Agawam couple and the town that’s been trying to make them get rid of their goats appears to be coming to a close.

A Housing Court judge has ruled that 60-year-old Alan Griffin must comply with the town ordinance and prior court orders and remove the goats from his property by Oct. 27.

In a separate decision, a federal judge last week dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Griffins that alleged the town violated their civil rights and discriminated against them in its efforts to get rid of the goats.

Griffin tells The Republican (http://bit.ly/GV7zTq ) he’s going to keep fighting.

According to court testimony, he has 15 goats.

Griffin says the goats provide milk for his wife, who cannot drink cow’s milk because of digestive problems.
