Suzuki to Sponsor Heisman Award

BREA, Calif. (AP) _ Suzuki Motor Corporation strengthened its ties to college football, becoming the presenting sponsor of the Heisman Trophy.

The Japanese auto and motorcycle manufacturer has been a corporate sponsor of college football’s most prestigious individual award for the past three years.

``American Suzuki is honored to be the first presenting sponsor in the 67-year history of the Heisman Trophy,″ Cam Smith Arnold, ASMC’s Director of Corporate Brand Marketing and Communications, said Friday.

Suzuki, along with ESPN Magazine, will present a 10-game college football tour that provides fans with Heisman-themed interactive games, product displays, giveaways, and a photo opportunity with the 2002 Heisman Trophy.

``My goal is to keep the Heisman Trophy as the most prestigious sports award in America,″ said Jim Corcoran, president of the Downtown Athletic Club. ``We look forward to working with Suzuki to deliver on that goal.

``As the presenting sponsor, Suzuki will give all college football fans a chance to get closer to the trophy and understand the rich tradition and history behind it.″

The Heisman Trophy, awarded by the Downtown Athletic Club of New York to the top collegiate player of the year, will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 14.
