Free-throw shooting putrid
BULLHEAD CITY — Free-throw shooting is considered one of the easiest ways to record points in all of sports.
Miraculously, the River Valley High School Lady Dust Devils edged the Lady T-birds 34-33 at Mohave High School on Wednesday night despite converting just 8 of 27 free-throw attempts.
The Dust Devils and T-birds were tied 30-30 with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter when they went 0 for 3 from the line at 5:01, 0 for 2 at 4:31, and 0 for 2 at 4:20 before Mohave’s Brianna Lipinski broke the deadlock by going 1 for 2 from the charity stripe at 3:35.
When asked about the free-throw shooting, River Valley head coach Josh Noonan said his Dust Devils missed “layups and free throws.”
The T-birds also did not help their cause by going 7 of 14 from the line.
“There was a lot that I let go,” Mohave head coach Herb Williams said. “This was a good game because I saw how they did under pressure.”
The T-birds and the Dust Devils will be competing all day today and Saturday at the River Valley Shootout.
