‘Wizard of Oz’: Shubert holiday-week event
Yes, the kids are off from school during Christmas week. So “The Wizard of Oz” touring production makes a lot of sense at the Shubert Theater in New Haven. But it should be enjoyable for adults, too, who probably grew up revering the 1939 MGM film version on which the stage show is based.
Producers of the show, which had a similar run in Hartford and New London in the spring, bring the pro-quality special effects (not recommended for childern under 6), costumes and music to the historic Shubert for seven shows starting Thursday, Dec. 27.
The non-Equity tour is produced by a Pennsylvania-based company; a state connection is Jack Saleeby of Southbury as the Scarecrow.
In a continuing initiative during this holiday week, patrons are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items and new, unwrapped toys when they attend events at the theater through New Year’s Eve. All food donations will benefit FISH of Greater New Haven, which provides grocery assistance to the home-bound in New Haven.
Shubert Theatre, 247 College St., New Haven. Thursday, Dec. 27, through Dec. 30. $96-$39. 203-562-5666. Shubert.com
