Women to fill all 10 seats in county court
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Women will be taking control of one of Ohio’s larger county courts.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports all 10 seats on the Summit County Common Pleas bench in Akron will be filled by women after two candidates defeated men Tuesday.
Kathryn Michael defeated Tom McCarty, whose wife Alison is on the Common Pleas bench, and Kelly McLaughlin bested Dave Lombardi.
An Ohio Supreme Court spokesman says there’s one other Ohio court with more than two seats that’s all female. The Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Domestic Relations Court in Cleveland has five female judges. A handful of courts with two judicial seats have only women judges.
Michael is an Akron Municipal judge who won on her fourth bid for a county seat. McLaughlin is chief magistrate in Summit County Domestic Relations Court.
