Motley Crue Bassist Jailed

August 13, 1999

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx was hauled off to jail after police accused the heavy metal rocker of encouraging violence during a concert.

Sixx, whose real name is Frank Ferrano, was arrested Wednesday and booked on a charge of provoking a breach of the peace at the Mandalay Bay Event Center.

Police Lt. Richard Alba said Sixx told the crowd that every time the group comes to Las Vegas the police tell them they can’t be themselves.

``If they don’t like it, we can start flipping over cop cars like we did a couple of years ago,″ Sixx was quoted as saying in the police report.

Alba said the crowd of 8,000 began to respond violently, and several people attempted to pick up folding chairs to throw them. A spokesman for the event center said there was no damage reported.

Police went to arrest Sixx after the show, around midnight, and the three band members tried to interfere with the arrest, Alba said. They were also arrested.

Alba said police had met with the band’s management to outline how the show would run to avoid the problems that occurred when Motley Crue performed here in 1997. A man assaulted vocalist Vince Neil on stage, forcing a temporary halt in the concert.
