Prosecutors drop sex trafficking charges against NY man

September 27, 2018

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors in Massachusetts have dropped charges against a New York man they had alleged forced women into prostitution.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that 44-year-old Charles Robinson, of Peekskill, New York, was released this week just before his trial on sex trafficking charges was scheduled to start in Pittsfield.

District Attorney Paul Caccaviello said “after conferring with the victim, the Commonwealth came to the conclusion that the prudent course of action is to terminate the prosecution.”

Robinson was arrested in October 2016 after allegedly luring women ages 19 and 23 from Vermont to the Berkshires, with the intent of selling them for sex. Prosecutors say he provided them with drugs and used their photos to create online advertisements for sexual services.

Robinson’s lawyer says his client has always maintained his innocence.
