Uncooperative driver, asleep at the wheel, arrested in Riverside
GREENWICH — Police said a vehicle was observed facing in the wrong direction on East Putnam Avenue in Riverside — and the driver had to be physically removed after refusing commands from officers.
Police said the driver was asleep at the wheel when an officer approached him shortly after midnight Monday. The driver, Mamadou Barry, 36, of East 172nd St., Bronx, N.Y., who was later arrested for driving while intoxicated, was uncooperative, according to the arrest report.
“During the course of the investigation, the arrestee claimed he was not asleep,” the arrest report stated, “The arrestee also claimed he was not on the wrong side of the road, despite viewing the double yellow line in the roadway on the right side of his vehicle.”
Finally, Barry had to be “physically removed from the vehicle” after refusing an offer’s order to step out of the vehicle, according to the report.
Besides DUI, he was charged with interfering with a police officer. He was also given a ticket for driving on the wrong side of the street.
Barry posted a $500 bond.
