5 places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Under General Ignacio Zaragoza’s leadership, the Mexican Army, although outnumbered, defeated the French Empire’s forces in Puebla City on May 5, 1862, marking the beginning of a yearly celebration. You don’t have to go far to feel the festivities this weekend — below is a handy list of venues celebrating Cinco de Mayo right here in the region.
Cinco Doggie Mayo
Let the dogs out at this event.
Cinco Doggie Mayo begins at noon and is hosted by Ingenious Brewing Company at 1986 S. Houston Ave., Humble.
“There will be plenty of beer and tacos for the humans, and even a special doggie snack bar for the pups,” read the event’s description on Facebook. Caluma Catering will be serving tacos on the day while Doggiee Snack Bar provides dog treats.

Cinco de Chuy’s
The Humble branch of the Tex-Mex restaurant chain at 20502 Hwy. 59 N will celebrate the day all-weekend long with special deals.
Beginning Friday, diners can get $1 floaters. On Saturday, there is that and $1 off margaritas. On Sunday, or Cinco de Mayo, those deals are included along with $5 regular House Ritas, $8 grande House Ritas, $1 off Dos Equis beer and $5 queso or guacamole.

Texas Saloon’s 2-in-1
The sports bar at 528 Atascocita Road, Humble is combining Saturday’s one-year anniversary with Sunday’s holiday with a continuous musical showcase this weekend. Whereas the Saturday event has a $5 cover free from 8 p.m. onward, the Sunday one has none and is good for the entire day.
At 2 p.m. Larry Lozano and La Raza Connection will perform. DJ Chris Luera and DJ Dee are also in the lineup, the former from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the latter from there until midnight.
Eazy Cookers will provide barbecue on-site. It is recommended that guests reserve tables by contacting Gus at 346-777-0422.
Performances at Green Oaks Tavern
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, the concert bar at 211 E Main St., Humble invites patrons to enjoy live music from Sancho and the Lovetones, with featured guests Artie Villasenor and Evelyn Rubio.
Also on the day are $5 margaritas and shot specials.

Fiesta at Mr. C’s
Come to the sports bar between 3 p.m. and midnight Sunday at 21614 Aldine Westfield Rd. in Humble to indulge in a free nacho bar, $3 margaritas, $4 Patron, $3 well tequila, $2.50 Dos Equis and $3.50 Corona.
