HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP Greenwich Academy golfers victorious
Greenwich Academy continued to excel, recording a 5-0 win over Hackley School in a golf match held at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., on Tuesday.
The 8-2 Gators received a 5 and 4 win at the No. 1 spot from Katie Dzialga, who defeated Calista Santomero. At No. 2, Emmy Sammons notched a 3 and 1 victory for GA over Catherine Lapey.
Josephine Genereux was a 4 and 3 winner at the third spot, while Megan Belcastro won her match at No. 4 for GA, 4 and 3. Sofia Manuel also coasted to a 5 and 3 win at the fifth position.
Greenwich Academy plays FAA rival Sacred Heart Greenwich Wednesday at Tamarack Country Club at 3:30 p.m.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Greenwich put the brakes on a six-game losing streak, defeating visiting Norwalk, 7-5, in an FCIAC matchup on Tuesday.
The Cardinals evened their record at 7-7 with the triumph. Senior Sophia Prieto struck out six batters and went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Greenwich. Sophomore catcher Olivia McClammy was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Emma Beinstein, a senior shortstop, had two hits and drove in a run in the winning effort.
Greenwich scored three runs in the third inning and added two each in the fifth and sixth innings.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF
The Cardinals posted a 188-223 win over FCIAC foe Darien on Tuesday to raise their record to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Sydney Nethercott shot a 41 to earn medalist honors for Greenwich. Sofia Ghorbel carded a 44, while Sarah Peng carded a 49 for the Cardinals. Jackie Intriere added a round of 54 for Greenwich.
For Darien, Ashley Amirsakis shot a 48. Darien is 2-5 overal and 2-4 in the FCIAC.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLF
Greenwich outshot Westhill, 156-166, in a match held at E. Gaynor Brennan in Stamford on Tuesday.
Jackson Fretty of Greenwich was the medalist, shooting a 36. Billy Nail of the Cardinals carded a 39, while Peter Magliocco shot a 40. Ben Ropiak and Tyler Sudell each finished with a 41 in the victory.
Greenwich is 5-0 following the win. Rishi Jaaswal and Benji Fuchs each shot a 40 for Westhill.
SACRED HEART GREENWICH LACROSSE
Sacred Heart Greenwich kept up its dominance, coasting to a 19-5 victory over Rye Country Day School in a game held in Rye, N.Y., on Monday.
Senior midfielder Ryan Smith scored a game-high six goals, while junior midfielder Morgan Smith recorded a hat trick with two assists for the 11-0 Tigers.
Freshman attack Lilly DeConcini tallied three times and junior attack Katie Keller notched two goals and two assists for the victors. Athena Corroon, a senior defender, had two goals, while junior midfielder Ameilia Sheehan added one goal and four assists in the winning effort.
Also pacing Sacred Heart were senior defender Hilary Hoover (one goal, one assist), senior attack Caroline Paul (one goal) and sophomore attack Jacey Heffernan (one assist).
Sophomores Rachel Keefe and Laura O’Connor combined to make three saves for Sacred Heart, which heads to Lawrenceville School in New Jersey on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TENNIS
Registering two singles and doubles victories, Wilton posted a 4-3 win over visiting Greenwich in a key FCIAC match held on Monday.
The Warriors’ wins came at first and fourth singles and first and second doubles. Wilton upped its record to 7-4 with the victory, while Greenwich’s record stands at 8-3. The loss snapped the Cardinals’ seven-match winning streak.
At first singles, Nick Condos of Wilton recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win against Justin Speaker. Second singles saw Greenwich’s Matthew Luzzi defeat Dylan Koziol, 7-5, 6-1.
Matthew Tamis won his match at third singles against Wilton’s Clay Adams, 6-0, 6-0 and Harrison Tucker of the Warriors notched a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Alican Beva.
In doubles play, Henry Murphy/Conrad Emerson from Wilton were victorious against Derek Wang/Boris Ardemasov, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. At second doubles, Wilton’s Ian Kolupaev/Rahul Vallabhajosula edged Kian Jian/Jimmy Papas, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In the third doubles matchup, Josh Fruman/Luke Muse of the Cardinals won their match, 6-2, 6-0.
