After a long life well lived, Evelyn Lorraine (Nissen) Luebbers slipped away peacefully on the evening of June 29, 2018. She was 92 and in good health until the end.
Evelyn was born on Dec. 10, 1925, in Page, to Peter and Alma (Fuelberth) Nissen, the youngest of six children.
She is survived by her sister, Laverne, who is now 98.
Evelyn married George M. Luebbers on Nov. 24, 1944, in Osmond. When George completed his service in the U.S. Navy, they returned to a farm near Osmond and raised a family of 10 children. In 1970, the family moved to St. Joseph, Mo., and two years later to Tallahassee, Fla., where Evelyn worked as the night registrar for Lively Vocational Technical School until her retirement in 1990.
Over the years, Evelyn traveled extensively across the United States and visited Europe, Russia and the Panama Canal. Her last years were spent quietly at Haven of Care in Aurora, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, George, and three children, Monica, George Jr. and Dennis. The remaining children — Cheri, Rick, Bob, Vonnie, Jan, Doug, LuAnn, Marty and Terry, along with 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren — will miss her quick wit, bright eyes and easy smile.
In lieu of flowers, donations for Haven of Care may be sent to Jan Warren, 4026 S. Yampa St., Aurora, CO 80013.
