Nicholls State 29, Harding 19

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Nakia Lumar ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Nicholls State to a 29-19 victory over Harding.

Lumar has rushed for a school record 963 yards this season, breaking the old mark of 962 yards set by Corey Thomas in 1994. He also tied a school record with his fourth 100-yard rushing game this season.

Nicholls State (7-3) led 13-3 at halftime and drove 69 yards on its first drive of the second half, with Lumar scoring on a 13-yard touchdown run.

Quarterback Brad Zeller’s rush for the two-point conversion failed and Nicholls State led 19-3.

Harding (6-4) came back to score twice in the third-quarter and made a pair of two-point conversions to tie the game at 19-19.

Harding quarterback Clay Beason scored on a one-yard sneak for the first touchdown.

Beason, who completed 16 of 27 passes for 263 yards, tossed a 44-yard touchdown pass to Andre Ford on harding’s next score.

Beason also converted both two-point conversions, passing to Chris Gilliam and Ford.

Nicholls State regained the lead on its next series when Adam Diel drilled a career-high 49-yard field goal with 10:29 left to play.

Nicholls State put the game away when Murphy Edwards intercepted Beason at the Harding 20. Five plays later, Zeller scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Diel’s point-after gave Nicholls State a 10-point lead with 2:03 left to play.
