Lakeview, Twin River boys end Day 1 at Holiday Tournament
The Lakeview boys missed their first five shots of the fourth quarter then went scoreless over the final two minutes and dropped a 40-39 final to Twin River on Thursday in the opening round of the Columbus Holiday Tournament.
Lakeview trailed 30-29 to begin the fourth and faced a 38-35 deficit after coming up empty on five straight possessions but answered back with makes from Alex Pacheco and Evan Tessendorf and lead 39-38 with 2:11 remaining)
Twin River took the lead back on a hoop from Ross Hebda with 1:10 on the clock, Lakeview had a chance to tie 25 seconds later but missed two free throws followed by Hebda making two of his own foul shots and extending the gap to three.
Cadge Janssen rebounded a 3-point miss on the other end and scored to draw the Vikings within one. With still two fouls to give though, Lakeview saw Twin River drain the clock down to 15.5 left.
The Titans missed the front end of 1-and-1s three straight times but an offensive rebound and a missed 3 from the Vikings allowed the visitors to survive.
A 3/4 quarter court heave at the buzzer by Lakeview came up just short of the front of the rim and sent Twin River into Friday’s championship game against Scotus Central Catholic.
The Shamrocks earned their way into the championship game with a 75-27 win over Schuyler. SCC sank 14 3-pointers in the win led by five from senior Caden Pelan.
The Lakeview girls face the Scotus girls in the girls title game. Both teams edged the competition with the Lady Vikes winning 41-40 over Twin River and the Shamrocks 25-22 over Schuyler.
