Shenandoah’s MetroPark Square slated to open in March

December 31, 2018

The long awaited opening of the new MetroPark Square is almost a reality for shoppers and diners in Shenandoah.

Officials from the Shenandoah shopping center’s developer, the Sam Moon Group, announced on Friday, Dec. 28, that the 69-acre mixed-use development is set to open in March 2019.

“The city of Shenandoah is thrilled for MetroPark Square and all of the attention it will bring to Shenandoah and The Woodlands area,” said John Mayner, the director of Shenandoah’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, in the release.

MetroPark is slated to be anchored by a 10-screen, 41,000-square foot AMC movie theater and a 40,000-square foot Dave & Buster’s. The development will also feature 175,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space, a central green space, an Urban Air adventure park location, a 160-room Hyatt House extended stay hotel and the 324-unit multi-family residential development The Residences at MetroPark.

The Shenandoah City Council in November approved a site plan for the second phase of development in MetroPark Square, setting off development of Urban Air, Hyatt House, the group painting locale Pinot’s Palette, a Home2Suites hotel and a parking structure — the garage, said Community Development Manager Jackie Thompson, is a necessity to begin leasing retail space to other tenants through Houston-based commercial real estate firm NewQuest Properties.

Billed as the first movie theater in Shenandoah, the scheduled opening of AMC in February comes after delays dating back to its original expected opening date of November 2017.

Announced in 2017, the MetroPark development is set to bring varied forms of entertainment for residents of Shenandoah and beyond. AMC will feature the latest audiovisual technology, Urban Air will feature a a wipeout ride, indoor skydiving, a ropes course, a climbing wall, a trampoline range, a ninja warrior course and a full bar and restaurant. The Residences at MetroPark will offer a fitness center, social spaces, a pool, community centers and single- and multi-bedroom apartment and townhome floor plans.

According to the release, the developer is planning an official grand opening celebration in the first half of 2019 with a party on the lawn as the first of many outdoor entertainment events planned to MetroPark Square.
