Animal Cruelty Charges Filed Against Two In Connection with Gang Rape Case
SAN DIEGO, Texas (AP) _ Two men who admitted they attended illegal cockfights at a ranch the night of a reported gang rape have been charged with animal cruelty.
Duval County Attorney Abelardo Garza said charges were filed Thursday against Eloy Gonzalez and Jose Francisco Briones.
In a cockfight, two roosters are outfitted with metal spurs, pitted against each other and usually fight to the death.
The men testified last week in the trial of Orlando Garza, 24, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman the night of March 26. The woman told police as many as 23 men raped her that night on the hood of a car. Ten men have been charged in the case.
