N.Y. Mercantile Exchange Delayed

August 26, 1999

NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Mercantile Exchange delayed trading of energy futures contracts by 45 minutes Thursday after heavy rains delayed commuter trains and buses.

Exchange officials said only about one-quarter of the normal contingent of traders made it in to work on time after heavy overnight rainstorms caused delays to New York’s subway systems and commuter trains from the suburbs and nearby New Jersey and Connecticut.

Trading of crude oil, unleaded gasoline, heating oil and natural gas futures was delayed until 10:30 a.m. EDT from its normal 9:45 a.m. start time.
