Heller International Corp. CEO Michael S. Blum Dead at 56
CHICAGO (AP) _ Michael S. Blum, chairman and chief executive of Heller International Corp. died while on a trip to Germany. He was 56.
Blum died Sunday of natural causes while on a goodwill trip to Germany with the American Jewish Committee, the company said in a statement.
Blum joined Chicago-based Heller, a worldwide finance company owned by The Fuji Bank Ltd., in 1986. He became chief executive four years later.
He is credited with expanding the company into new markets. Under his leadership, Heller Financial Inc. enjoyed three consecutive years of record performance.
A special board of directors meeting within the next two weeks will determine a successor, the company said.
Prior to joining Heller, Blum worked for General Electric Co. in several management positions, beginning in 1967.
Blum is survived by his wife, Sandy, and three children.
