SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Clarisse Machanguana scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as San Jose beat New England 83-71 Sunday to sweep the best-of-three ABL series.

San Jose will face the Columbus Quest in the second round. The Lasers lost last year to the Quest when the teams met in the first round.

The Lasers led the Blizzard by as many as 18 in the third period but let New England close to within six points with 1:02 left. Jennifer Azzi and Shelley Sandie sealed the victory with four free throws.

Sheri Sam scored 17 points and Azzi and Kedra Holland-Corn each added 10 for San Jose.

Carolyn Jones, who had a team-high 23 points, gave the Blizzard their only lead on the team's first possession. Jennifer Rizzotti and Karen Deden each had 10 points for New England.

Machanguana scored eight straight points to give the Lasers an 11-6 lead. She added eight more points during a 15-6 run in the second quarter that pushed the lead to 46-31.
