Mother, child injured in Wilson County crash
A mother and her young son were injured early Tuesday morning in a crash in Wilson County.
According to officials with the State Highway Patrol, crews had to remove the car’s roof to extract the 11-year-old boy from the backseat.
Officials say the crash occurred around 2 a.m. on I-95.
According to an investigation, the car lost control, spun around and traveled off the road into the woods, slamming into a large pine tree.
According to troopers, the child was unrestrained, sleeping in the backseat.
Officials say the mother and child were alert but shaken up. They were both transported to WakeMed. Later, officials with the State Highway Patrol said the only serious injury is the boy’s broken leg.
