TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ Wasean Tait’s 212 yards rushing and two touchdowns helped Toledo clinch a share of the Mid-American Conference title on Saturday with a 41-7 victory over Akron.

Toledo (8-0-1 overall, 6-0-1 MAC) also guaranteed its first trip to the Las Vegas Bowl.

Tait dominated the first half, gaining 180 yards on 17 carries. He scored on runs of 21 and 16 yards to give the Rockets a 14-0 lead. Eric Engle made it 20-0 at the half with a 9-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Ryan Huzjak tossed two touchdown passes in the second half, the first a 55-yard strike to Mace Freeman. Dwayne Harris then added a 60-yard TD run that gave Toledo a 41-0 lead late in the fourth quarter.

Akron (2-7, 2-4) had five turnovers that led to 14 points for Toledo.

The Zips did not score until 9 seconds left in the game when Matt Kaulig threw a 22-yard pass to Carl Whitt.

Greg Lomax was the one bright spot for Akron, picking up 105 yards rushing on 29 carries.

Huzjak was 13-of-22 passing for 169 yards.

The Rockets last won the MAC in 1990, when they shared the title with Central Michigan. A victory over Ohio next week would give Toledo the title outright.
