NORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ Lucienne Berthieu’s career-high 21 points helped No. 11 Old Dominion jump out to a quick lead and the Lady Monarchs cruised to a 80-48 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday.
Mery Andrade scored five points as Old Dominion (9-2, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association) went on a 13-5 run in the first five minutes. Virginia Commonwealth (5-8, 2-1) chipped away at the lead but the Lady Monarchs closed with another run and led 38-27 at the half.
Old Dominion led in double figures throughout the second half and went on a 12-0 run in the final three minutes to put the game out of reach.
Berthieu was 7-of-12 from the field, hit 7-of-8 free throws and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Monarchs, who shot 44 percent. Andrade had 12 points and Sharron Francis eight assists for Old Dominion.
Marika Rasmussen and Mona Karlsson led Virginia Commonwealth with 13 points apiece. The Rams shot just 38 percent and turned the ball 23 times in the first half.
