MEXICO CITY (AP) _ Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano has sent up some 35 small clouds of vapor and gas, and in some cases ash, in the last 24 hours, Mexico’s National Disaster Prevention Agency said Tuesday.
Scientists have also recorded low-level seismic activity from a dome of lava that has formed at the base of the volcano’s crater.
In the past, such domes have gradually built up, then broken, sometimes causing fiery explosions but no damage.
The 17,886-foot volcano some 40 miles southeast of Mexico City has been intermittently erupting since December 1994.
