Utah hires new swim coach after abuse scandal
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The University of Utah has hired the coach from North Texas to take over its swim program after an abuse scandal led to the ouster of Greg Winslow.
Utah athletic director Chris Hill issued a statement Monday announcing the hiring of Joe Dykstra, the 2013 Sun Belt Conference co-coach of the year.
Dykstra is familiar with the Pac-12 Conference having spent six years as Washington’s coach from 2001-06.
Utah officials announced in early March that they wouldn’t renew Winslow’s contract based on allegations that he sexually abused a teenage girl he coached in Arizona six years ago.
Winslow has been on paid suspension since Feb. 28.
He has not been arrested or charged in either state. Prosecutors in Arizona are still reviewing a 97-page police report from Arizona State University.
