COUPLE’S LAWYER SAYS PROSECUTORS WANT MORE INFO ABOUT R. KELLY ALLEGATIONS
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (AP) — A lawyer for a couple who say R. Kelly is holding their daughter against her will says prosecutors in Georgia have reached out to him for more information. Gerald Griggs, who represents Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage, says the Fulton County district attorney’s office has asked him for contact information for witnesses. He says investigators have not confirmed or denied an investigation. Griggs says prosecutors in Kelly’s hometown of Chicago also have contacted him. The Savages say Kelly brainwashed their daughter, Jocelyn Savage, and they haven’t heard from her in two years. A recent Lifetime TV series, “Surviving R. Kelly,” outlined allegations that Kelly sexually abused women and girls, charges Kelly denies. The series reported that Jocelyn Savage denied Kelly abused her and she doesn’t want contact with her family. Kelly’s Chicago attorney, Steve Greenberg, says the allegations are false and no “sex slaves” have ever been found because they aren’t any.
THOM YORKE WILL SKIP ROCK HALL INDUCTION
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Thom Yorke won’t attend Radiohead’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 29. He’s already booked to play with the Paris Philharmonic. Yorke tells Variety magazine he doesn’t want to offend anyone about the Rock Hall, but “we don’t really understand it as English people.” He says British awards shows all stink. He’s more excited at the prospect of going to the Oscars. His song “Suspirium” from the film “Suspiria” made the top 15 for best original song. Yorke admits he hopes it gets nominated. Oscar nominations come out Jan. 22.
LED ZEPPELIN’S “STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN” TOPS LIST OF BAND’S DIGITAL EARNINGS
LOS ANGELES (AP) — What’s the most popular Led Zeppelin song of the digital era, based on what fans choose to hear? Perhaps it’s no surprise: it’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Billboard magazine analyzed revenue data of all Zeppelin songs since they became available for download or streaming. That means the rankings are based on what fans pick to hear, rather than a programmer putting the song on the radio or an executive licensing it for a TV show or commercial. “Stairway to Heaven” has made the most revenue under that methodology, with $2.9 million. Number two on the list is “Kashmir,” with $1.4 million. “Immigrant Song” is third, followed by “Black Dog” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

WOODSTOCK 50 ANNOUNCES MORE DETAILS BUT NO LINEUP
WOODSTOCK, N.Y. (AP) — More than 60 bands are expected to play at what’s being billed as the official Woodstock 50th anniversary concert, put on by the man who put on the original. Michael Lang has yet to announce the lineup for Woodstock 50, set for Aug. 16-18 in Watkins Glen, New York. Lang says in a statement the original site in Bethel is wonderful but too small for what he envisions. The Bethel site will have its own anniversary concert. Lang says he will focus on contemporary rock, pop, hip-hop and country talent with tributes to the acts who played the original festival. Lang says in keeping with the spirit of the original, Woodstock 50 will also include sections to promote sustainability and social advocacy.
CARLOS SANTANA TALKS TO THE MONA LISA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — If the Mona Lisa says “hi” to you, what do you do? You say “hi” back, then write songs about it, according to Carlos Santana. He says he heard the Mona Lisa speak to him the first time he had ever visited the Louvre (LOOV) in Paris recently. He says she also said to him, “Do you remember me? When we were lovers in another time?” Santana says months later, he woke up with the songs “In Search of Mona Lisa” and “Do You Remember Me” fully formed in his head, the first time that had ever happened. The songs will be part of Santana’s EP, “In Search of Mona Lisa,” out Jan. 25.
PORTUGAL. THE MAN USE OTHER LYRICS TO HOLD THEIR PLACES
CHICAGO (AP) — Portugal. The Man often uses parts of other songs as place holders when they’re working out a song. That’s how a piece of “Please Mr. Postman” ended up in “Feel It Still.” Bassist Zach Carothers says sometimes they won’t have a line, so they’ll throw in, say, a Beatles lyric until they work it out. In the case of “Feel It Still,” Caruthers says the melody worked so well that they couldn’t unhear it. Carothers says yes, that means they have to pay the songwriters of “Please Mr. Postman,” but they’re happy to do it. He says they don’t care about money but they do care about representing where they came from. He says it’s their way of saying, “Thank you for the music.”
