NEW YORK (AP) _ Manon Bollegraf and Rick Leach claimed the first championship of the U.S. Open today, winning the mixed doubles title against Mercedes Paz and Pablo Albano 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

It was the second title of the Grand Slam season for Bollegraf-Leach. They also won at Australia and reached the semis of the French and the quarters of Wimbledon.

``We like to team up together,'' Leach said. ``We've had a good year.''

After dropping the first set, Bollegraf and Leach rallied to take the match, going to a tiebreak in the third.

They saved seven of 10 break point opportunities and became the first players to accept a championship trophy in the new Arthur Ashe Stadium.

``It was just an honor to play out there,'' Leach said. ``It was an honor to play on the court, an honor to win the Grand Slam.''
