Eagles Sign Barry Wilburn
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Veteran free agent Barry Wilburn, who made a key interception in Philadelphia’s playoff victory over the Detroit Lions last year, signed a one-year contract with the Eagles on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.
Wilburn, who led the NFL with nine interceptions as a member of the Washington Redskins in 1987, joined the Eagles as a free agent before the 1995 season. He played in the Eagles’ six-defensive-back set and on special teams, finishing the regular season with 11 tackles and one interception.
In the Eagles’ 58-37 wild-card playoff victory over Detroit, Wilburn picked off a pass by Scott Mitchell and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown.
To make room for Wilburn on the 80-man roster, the Eagles released rookie free agent strong safety Bill Montgomery.
