Arrests Reported in Attack on Americans

May 30, 1987

CAIRO, Egupt (AP) _ Three suspects have been arrested in the attack on a U.S. Embassy car in which two Americans were wounded, the state-owned newspaper Al-Gomhouria reported in its early Saturday edition.

It said one was not Egyptian, but gave no further details. The report could not be checked with officials because of the late hour.

Gunmen in a car shot up a station wagon carrying three embassy employees to work Tuesday in the first terror attack in memory on U.S. officials in Egypt.

A group called Egypt’s Revolution claimed responsibility, as it did for three similar attacks over the past three years in which two Israeli Embassy staff members were killed.

Dennis L. Williams, acting regional security officer at the embassy, and his deputy John Hucke suffered slight head wounds. Administrative officer John Ford was not hurt.
